Dawn trained as a florist in the floral department at Reaseheath College near Nantwich. During her time at college she gained commercial experience at several local florists on the day release scheme. After her time at college was completed Dawn gained paid remuneration at the highly respected, Chelsea Flower Show and RHS Tatton Park medal winning, Black Rose Florist of Knutsford. Initially at Knutsford, Dawn gained valuable expertise working alongside internationally acclaimed floral designer Mark Entwistle, both in the retail shop and in the much-feted Cheshire School of Flowers, an important part of the Black Rose set up. Dawn was then moved to Hale where a second Black Rose florist shop serves the needs of the Manchester stockbroker belt. There, footballers, footballer's wives, airline personnel, successful business people, other high flyers and many television stars are regular clients. In time Dawn was promoted to manager at Hale, but after a while the urge too be her own boss overcame the natural desire for the security of paid employment and Distinctive Designs Florist, Crewe, was created.
