Mothers Day Article...
Mother's Day, or "Mothering Sunday". Britain observes "Mothering Sunday",
or the "Mid-Lent-Sunday, on the fourth Sunday in Lent.
Originally Mothering Sunday was the Sunday when worshipers attended the Mother Church of the Diocese,
often but not always a Cathedral, in the mid term of Lent.
In the eighteenth century when many people worked as household servants for the rich, "Mothering Sunday" was reserved for them to return home to be with their mothers.
Girls often took with them, posies of wildflowers for their mothers as a gift. Some of the grander houses had heated conservatries
and sometimes girls employed there were allowed to take home more exotic flowers produced under glass.
Though this custom died out when the Industrial Revolution altered the working and living patterns of the people, the tradition of a Sunday for Mothers survived and Mother's Day was established as a festival day early in the twentieth century.
In the USA Mothers Day is celebrated on the second Sunday in May.
By tradition Mom is not allowed to cook on Mothers Day.
So restaurants are always mega busy on that day.
